North Island South Zone Sporting Champs at Hutt Valley
To get a busy September at Hutt Valley started, we held our Sporting Club Champs on Saturday as a warm up to the North Island South Zone on Sunday.
Club Champs: A 100 target match from which the locals could have their first 60 targets count toward a Sporting Clays Grand Prix score [12 rounds across the year of 60 targets with a final and prize table at the December round]. 48 shooters turned out to shoot on a day that had everything; sun, rain, a little bit of wind but nothing to write home about. Half were local shooters looking to add a score to their SCGP collection. The visitors came from all over to check out the lay of the land. Some new faces in the entries so I hope they enjoyed their weekend.
A Grade went to folks from out of town although Adam is still considered family at ours. 1st Adam Green, 2nd Glenn Rastrick, 3rd Hayden Lourie. B Grade went to a mix of local and out of town folks with 1st Geoff Lynds, 2nd Ben Jolly, 3rd Tarsh Pescini. C Grade was also a mix with 1st Richard Lourie, 2nd, Nick Bennik, 3rd Maria Nicholls-Pokotea.
North Island South Zone: Again 100 targets but a little tougher than Saturday. Thanks Adam for giving them the once over before shooting began. The forecast wasn’t looking quite so good but didn’t turn out that bad.
High Overall (HOA) Adam Green. AA Grade 1st Glen Zydenbos (first-time visitor to HVCTC — what a debut!), 2nd Hayden Lourie, 3rd Brent Quin. A Grade 1st Trinity Batt, 2nd John Hillier, 3rd Reno Verde. B Grade 1st Andy Pescini, 2nd Geoff Lynds, 3rd Alistair Burr. C Grade 1st Rodney Hayes, 2nd Corey Brown, 3rd Maria Nicholls-Pokotea (making a habit of third on this weekend!).
Categories: Man Glen Zydenbos, Junior Hayden Lourie, Lady Tarsh Pescini, Senior Adam Green, Veteran Craig Matthews, Master Ivan Posa.
Special thanks to the following for their support over the weekend:
- The dedicated crew who set the fields and maintained them over the weekend, and packed up at the end.
- The local Heretaunga College fund raising team for the great food; fresh baking is always welcome!
- Wanganui Rangitikei Clay Target Club for the loan of additional traps and radio gear to ensure we had backups etc.
- ProServices for the use of the knuckle boom to throw targets from above.
- Target Products for the sponsorship of the Zone shoot on Sunday; shooters are always happy to walk away from a competition with ammunition.
