300 Target Skeet Weekend
The first 100 Target Skeet on Saturday 5th April was the Famous Grouse Skeet Trophy with prizes again kindly sponsored by Beam Global. The Famous Grouse Trophy is shot on handicap and also has an off the gun trophy awarded.
The event is a north/ south qualifying event for Wairarapa Gun Club and although we had near perfect shooting conditions, we only had 15 shooters for the day. This is due to a clash with another North South qualifying Skeet weekend in Te Kuiti and the fact that the DTL Nationals and World Champs only finished 3 or 4 weeks ago, shooters are probably still recovering physically and financially.
Five shooters managed to qualify for the shoot off with possibles on handicap, Dave Grant, Grant Wareham, Warren Kurney, Wayne Pym and Peter Peryer. Dave and Warren also tied for the Off the Gun Trophy on 93 and as a shooter cannot win both, the Off the Gun trophy was shot off first, with Warren Kurney coming out the victor. Dave and Wayne went into the handicap shoot off with 1 target while Grant and Peter were off scratch, having used all of their handicap targets to qualify. The shoot off never went past station two with Dave Grant winning the Famous Grouse Trophy on Handicap, Wayne Pym second and Grant Wareham third.
Again, we are indebted to Lance Wadham from Beam Global, who provided all of the Famous Grouse products, which were all well received.
We shot the first 50 targets on Saturday of the Hull Cartridges and Blaser Skeet events, 2x 100 tgt matches, both sponsored again by Barry Foster and is shot in grades and completed the remaining 150 targets on the Sunday.
The first 100 Hull Cartridges and Blaser event resulted in Jamie Peryer-Fursdon winning HOA on 95. Closely followed by a regular visitor to our big skeet events, Eric Dais who won the A grade on 94, Dave Grant was 2nd A grade on 92 and Phil Bazalo was 3rd A grade on 87. Wayne Pym won the B grade on 91 from Grant Wareham on 89 and Peter Peryer was 3rd B grade on 86. David Donald won the C grade on 77 from Mike Dasler on 74 and Bayley Donald taking 3rd C grade on 71.
The second 100 Hull Cartridges and Blaser event saw Jamie Peryer-Fursdon again winning HOA on 96. Dave Turner was first A grade on 95, followed by Eric Dais 2nd A grade on 92 and Donna Matthews 3rd A grade on 91.
The B grade was won by Alan Markham on 95, yes 95. In the last 25, Alan missed his repeat on low eight for a possible which would have tied for the HOA score with Jamie. Alan shot brilliantly for the day, shooting 50 straight in the morning which was the second half of the middle 100 tgt event and having not shot on the Saturday, missed the first 50 and was not eligible for the match. This is the first time Alan has shot 50 straight. Wayne Pym was 2nd B grade on 93 and Peter Peryer 3rd B grade on 91. Mike Dasler won the C grade on 77 after a shoot off with David Donald also on 77 and Karen Hayes taking 3rd C grade on 75.
Once again, a big thank you to the sponsors for the weekend, Beam Global for the Famous Grouse Trophies on Saturday and Hull Cartridges and Blaser for both events on Saturday and Sunday. Also, thanks to the visiting shooters, Eric Dais, Donna Matthews, Jamie Peryer-Fursdon and the Donald clan.
Thanks to Suzanne and Hamish Wareham for keeping the traps topped up.
See you next time.
